How to Use Pop-Up Windows

Are you looking for a way to alert the visitor to a new e-book, discount event, or novelty and do not want to re-create the website’s main page, the so-called home page?

Then there’s the solution, and that’s the pop-up window.

I was wondering how to use it? Want to know what exit pop-up is and how it differs from classic? Wondering when to pop-up attention and when it’s not appropriate? You can find the answers in this article.

What is a pop-up window?

A pop-up window or pop-up window indicates a specific content format that appears before the page content itself. Notifies the visitor of the action you want.

It was widely used for advertising spamming in the early days of the Internet, but today it can be used much better and more targeted. Importantly, it can be used to make it relevant to your site visitor.

How to use them?

We distinguish two kinds of pop-up windows. The first is CLASSIC POP-UP. This appears either after the page is loaded or according to other criteria, such as when a defined part of the page is cut off or after a certain amount of time spent on the page.

And the second is EXIT POP-UP. This will be displayed if the visitor is about to leave your page so that they will hover over the web, e.g., in the browser’s address bar or outside the browser window.

You can set up pop-ups globally for the entire website or just for specific selected pages.

Learn how to set them up specifically in MioWeb in the Help article How to create pop-ups.

When and how to use pop-up windows not only for your marketing and sales?

When and how to use pop-up windows

The pop-up window is used to draw the client’s attention to your intended cause or service or some vital information.

Banner – ensure the customer buy

A classic way of using it is, for example, to provide a discount on the purchase of a product or other business offer, the intention of which is to sell goods or services and thus directly in the pop-up you invite the visitor to action, usually using the BUY button.

Collect contacts

This is probably the most common form of using poppers. For example, use the pop-up to download an e-book and register for a trial version of a course or app to exchange for an email address or newsletter. Again, this is probably the most common form of pop-up use.

Information /warnings

Welcome visitors or customers to your page or inform them of important events, such as vacations or website shutdowns. For example: “The site is under renovation, so certain features cannot be available.” Or: “During 10-15 August we take a holiday. Therefore, we will process your orders only after 16.8..” Let us know about the ongoing competition or the newly stocked goods.

Use pop-up windows as you see fit, but remember that less is sometimes more.

Be sure not to use them for mobile devices. First, search engines penalize sites with active pop-ups, and thus by using pop-ups on mobiles, you reduce traffic to your website. The second thing is that when displaying a pop-up on a mobile, the pop-up often covers the entire display, and it is difficult for the visitor to close it, which can cause him to leave the site altogether.

For these reasons, pop-ups for mobile devices are permanently blocked in MioWeb and will not appear on them.

Test. Things that work for you may not work on another website, so it’s a good idea to test and evaluate. Do not forget that the content is king. An enticing title accompanied by quality photography or graphics is essential.
