Welcome to Edspace!
We’re delighted to have you in Edspace. Below are details that should answer any questions you have, and ensure you make the most of all the great benefits of the space.
Your Desk Setup
Every desk in Edspace comes with wifi and use of proper desk chairs (to look after your back!) If you are on a hotdesk membership (anyone that isn't using the space every workday) you must take home all items you bring into Edspace each day. If you have a 'fixed' desk you are welcome to leave your items on your desk, though we recommend that you have insurance, and Edspace takes no responsibility for your personal belongings.
You are welcome to use the college gardens and grounds, the Shoreditch library and the cafeteria (which is subsidised). There is also a gym onsite which has showers and offers Edspace Members a subsided membership.
Please be respectful that we are in a college, and amongst education staff, students, other private companies that all have jobs to do.
Access to Edspace
The main Hackney College reception is on Falkirk street. This reception is staffed 8am – 5pm. Outside of these hours there is a security team onsite. There is a second entrance on Hoxton Street. This is open 9am – 7pm and locked at all other times. Edspace members are given an ID / access card which you scan on the turnstiles to enter. For safeguarding and security reasons you must wear your ID card on a lanyard at all times when on the campus. If you intend to enter Edspace outside of office hours it is advisable to email the security team (firstname.lastname@example.org) to let them know.
If you are expecting visitors please email the main reception at least 2 hours in advance so they can have a visitor pass created (email@example.com). Please email the first name and surname of your visitor, and the date they’ll be visiting. This will allow for a smoother visitor process. Please also provide your mobile number when you email reception, that way they can call you to let you know that your visitor has arrived. You will need to greet your visitor at reception and bring them up to Edspace.
Everyone who uses Edspace is required to have a DBS check. If you already have one please bring the original in and hand it to one of Team Edspace, who can show it to the college and take a photocopy. Once this is completed you will be given an Edspace branded lanyard, instead of the red visitor lanyard. If you haven’t got a DBS please contact Team Edspace and we can provide you with the form and run through what needs to be filled in.
We have recycling bins in the kitchens and the coworking rooms. If you have a substantial amount of rubbish or recycling that you need to dispose of please let Team Edspace know and we can arrange a separate collection from the college.
The fire exits are both sets of stairs going up to Edspace. In the unlikely event of a fire do not use the lift.
The Edspace Members Portal
You have been set up on the Edspace Members Portal, which is a software called Office R&D. You can login to this platform to book meeting rooms, see other members details, view upcoming events we’re hosting and also see all the benefits and discounts that you can get as an Edspace Member. The URL to login is https://edspace.officernd.com/login
We have included you on all our communication channels. The Edspace Googlegroup (firstname.lastname@example.org) goes to all Members of the Network, whilst email@example.com only goes to Members who use the space all the time (we use it for more facility-related communication). Finally, you are subscribed to our monthly Members newsletter.
Due to security and safeguarding policies you must wear your Edspace lanyard and ID card (or red visitor lanyard until you get the DBS forms completed) at all times whilst on campus.
For general members we do not offer a facility for posting outbound mail / parcels, though there is a post office on Hoxton Street. Post and parcels can be delivered to the college. They will be sent to the college post room initially. The college will then deliver post and parcels once a day and the Edspace team will sign for them. We will then deliver them to your desk. We do try our best to get post to your desk as quickly as possible, but please bear with us! Please note that if you are expecting a parcel urgently you will need to go to the post room yourself to pick it up and sign for it.
We offer free tea, coffee, milk for hot drinks and fruit daily. On Thursdays we host a free Members Breakfast, this is in The Auditorium and all Members are welcome to join us. On Friday afternoons we open our beer fridge and kick back with Members to see in the weekend. Drinks can be bought for £1 each.
Lunch and Learn
As part of our efforts to support our community of entrepreneurs we run regular Lunch & Learn sessions for our members. Recent sessions have included ‘How to stay healthy in the workplace’, ‘Mindful sales for start-ups’ and ‘The art of storytelling’. We’ll email you invites for these events so do look out for them and if you would like to run a Lunch & Learn session yourself, please contact the Edspace team.
Our printers print A3 and A4 and you can scan documents. In order to use the printer we need to get the software set up on your PC / laptop. Please contact Team Edspace (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you require this.
